I earned a PhD in mathematics from the University of Utah in 1989 specializing in topology, geometry, and mathematical physics. After that, I completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ, and was a professor of mathematics at the University of British Columbia for eight years. For the past twelve years, I have been a professor of mathematics at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.
